OUR STORY

A LONG JOURNEY FROM BRIGHTON FOR VIVIENNE

Little Matthew Sloan was a typical two year old, and the family day out at Brighton would confirm this. Matthew laughed and giggled as he watched his Grandad chase all over the place with a windmill which had been bought earlier in the day. The windmill, costing very little, was the centre of attention along with a very young lad clearly enjoying himself. It turned out to be a terrific day, enjoyed by every member of the family.

Sadly, not long after this memorable time young Matthew was diagnosed with leukaemia. To his parents and the rest of the family such devastating news!

The next four years were extremely hard and difficult with many visits to Great Ormand Street Hospital for check- ups and stay ins. There were of course good times with the family but nothing can compensate for knowing your child is so seriously ill.

Poor Matthew lost his fight with Leukaemia at the tender age of six years and four months. Words cannot describe the feeling. Thankfully this illness is much more understood today with the result that survival rates have vastly improved.

Many years on Vivienne Sloan is now achieving her ambition and with the support from hubbie John, she has just set up her charity “Matthew Sloan Windmill Days” in memory of their loving son.

The purpose of the charity is to raise funds so young people like Matthew will have the opportunity to enjoy their “Windmill days” and join others on a memorable day’s outing.
